The Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) degree program aims to cultivate high-level, applied professionals with a solid foundation in Chinese linguistics, cross-cultural communication skills, and an international perspective, who are excelling in Chinese language teaching, cultural exchange, and related fields. The program adhers to the concept of integrating Chinese language and Chinese culture dissemination, and focuses on the future development trend of Chinese language education, such as localization and digitalization. The program is supported by a faculty team with high academic standards and rich teaching experience focusing on the cultivation of students’ professional quality and vocational ability. The dual tutor system adopted and the program has undertaken more than 50 teaching and research projects, published more than 20 academic books and more than 100 research papers.
Emphasizing the integration of theory and practice, the program adopts a training model of “on-campus learning + overseas internships + professional training” to comprehensively enhance students’ teaching abilities, research capabilities, and cross-cultural adaptability. Graduates can pursue careers in Chinese language teaching, curriculum design, and textbook development at domestic and international universities, Confucius Institutes, international schools, and language training institutions. They can also leverage their professional expertise in fields such as cultural exchange, foreign affairs, and international trade.
The MTCSOL degree program fully leverages JISU’s multilingual advantages, adopting a “Chinese + Foreign Language + Profession” training model. This approach has established strengths in areas such as regional and country-specific studies, overseas Sinology research, telling China’s stories well in Chinese and foreign language, and digital technology-enabled Chinese education. The program maintains close collaborations with institutions such as the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under the Ministry of Education and the Jilin Provincial International Education Exchange Association. Additionally, they have established 10 internship bases, including domestic shool-enterprise partnerships and bases in countries and regions along the Belt and Road, such as Russia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Egypt.
Graduate students in this field have consistently achieved outstanding results in various competitions. In 2017, they won the “Best Popularity Award” at the first National “Chinese Teaching Heroes” Competition and swept the top three places in the Jilin Provincial Chinese Teaching Skills Competition. In 2018, they secured the “Excellence Award” in the North and Northeast China regional round of the second “Chinese Teaching Heroes” Competition.
