On the afternoon of February 4, during Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi’s state visit to China, the signing ceremony for China-Uruguay scientific and technological cooperation agreements was held in Beijing. Jilin International Studies University (JISU) and the Universidad de la República (UDELAR) officially signed a cooperation agreement at the event, marking the entry into a substantive implementation phase of collaboration between the two institutions in education, scientific research, and people-to-people exchanges.
Entrusted by President Qin He, Vice President Wang Zhiguo signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of the university with Engineer Héctor Cancela, Rector of the Universidad de la República. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Uruguayan Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin and other Uruguayan ministerial-level officials.
This signing is an important component of the series of science, technology, and education cooperation activities during the Uruguayan President’s visit to China, and also represents a significant step taken by JISU to actively respond to the Belt and Road Education Initiative and deepen cooperation with leading universities in Latin America. The agreement covers multiple areas including faculty and student exchanges, joint research, academic resource sharing, and cultural interactions, aiming to build a long-term, stable, and mutually beneficial partnership, and to jointly advance knowledge and innovation cooperation between the two countries in fields such as language and culture, international studies, and sustainable development.
JISU has always been committed to cultivating versatile talents with a global vision and cross-cultural communication skills. This cooperation with the Universidad de la República not only expands the university’s cooperation network with higher education institutions in Latin America, but also provides students and faculty with a richer platform for international exchange, further promoting people-to-people bonds and mutual learning in education between China and Uruguay. Seizing this signing as an opportunity, the university will continue to broaden and deepen its collaboration with Uruguayan and other Spanish-speaking countries’ universities, contributing JISU’s strength to serving China’s national foreign strategy and advancing the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Founded in 1849, the Universidad de la República (UDELAR) is Uruguay’s largest and oldest public university, and serves as the country’s most important institution of higher education and scientific research. With a comprehensive disciplinary system covering humanities, sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, and other fields, it enjoys a high academic reputation in Latin America and has long been committed to promoting international cooperation and knowledge sharing.
