Dec 28, 2024 11:26 AM

From December 17 to 21, the second Asian Secondary School 3X3 Basketball Championship was held in Changchun. The tournament featured 15 male teams and 10 female teams from 10 countries and regions, including China, Macau (China), Thailand, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Forty five volunteers from JISU, majoring in English, Russian, Japanese, Korean, and Polish served translation volunteers for the 25 participating teams from these 10 countries and regions. The volunteers fully demonstrated the responsibility and charm of China’s youth, earning praise from the organizers and international guests.

JISU placed great emphasis on the service work for this event, with the Youth League Committee spearheading the recruitment of volunteers from across the campus. Candidates were assessed and selected based on their language proficiency and comprehensive service skills. The volunteers were also organized to participate in training on diplomatic etiquette, aiming to ensure professionalism and appropriateness in the service.

The volunteers were divided into two groups: the accompanying interpreters and the event coordinaters. They assisted the staff in moving venue equipment, arranging chairs, hanging banners, and debugging devices to ensure proper venue setup. They also facilitated the smooth check-in and hotel accommodation for nearly 200 foreign guests. The volunteers provided detailed event information and thoughtful guidance to athletes from various countries, helping them quickly adapt to the environment and prepare for their competitions in the best possible condition. Additionally, they accompanied foreign guests to visit cultural exhibitions, experience traditional Chinese culture such as dumpling-making, and explore Changchun’s Ice and Snow World.

The volunteers remarked that through this service activity, they experienced the positive role of professional knowledge in social engagements. They said they will solidify their professional foundation and leverage their expertise to embody the spirit of volunteerism—dedication, fraternity, mutual aid, and progress—through concrete actions. With their sincere service, they aim to build bridges of friendship between China and other nations, contributing to narrating China’s stories and those of Jilin with authenticity and passion.
