On May 13, 40 international students from Jilin International Studies University (JISU) visited the Changchun China Optical Science and Technology Museum and the Jilin Science and Technology Museum, where they explored the mysteries of optics and cutting‑edge technologies and gained a first‑hand appreciation of China’s scientific and technological achievements.
This activity was part of the “Experience Jilin” practical series organized by the Chinese Culture Workshop of JISU, and it also serves as a compulsory practical course for international students. By combining cultural immersion with hands‑on science experiences, the university enables its international students to fully appreciate the cultural heritage and innovative vitality of Jilin Province.
At the Changchun China Optical Science and Technology Museum, the students toured seven exhibition zones, including “Wondrous Light,” “Millennium Glory,” and “Splendour of China,” gaining an in‑depth understanding of China’s optical journey – from pursuing and exploring light to utilizing and creating with it. They also had a close feel at Jilin’s profound technological heritage as the birthplace of China’s optical industry.

At the Jilin Science and Technology Museum, the students explored five thematic areas – “Cradle of Dreams,” “Ladder of Wisdom,” and “Brilliance of Creation,” among others – and interacted with over 400 exhibits. Through hands‑on operation and personal experience, they grasped scientific principles and witnessed the remarkable power of modern technology.

The students universally agreed that this was an unforgettable journey of science and culture. With professional explanations and immersive experiences, they not only acquired knowledge in optics and modern technology but also directly observed Jilin’s outstanding achievements in technological innovation, high‑end manufacturing, and fundamental scientific research.
Habibi from Sudan said that the activity gave him a systematic understanding of optics and China’s innovation in the field, and he found it highly rewarding. Sulaihuan from Yemen and Ayisi from Saudi Arabia noted that laser technology, light‑shadow interactive installations, and ancient optical instruments were the most impressive – both fascinating and awe‑inspiring, making them deeply realize how technology transforms life and illuminates the future. Sha Ailan from Palestine remarked that the visit reshaped his understanding of light and optical technology, and revealed Jilin’s strong capabilities in optics. He also praised the beauty of Changchun city, the friendliness of its people, and the equally impressive integration of technology and culture.

The “Experience Jilin” practical activities form an integral part of the Chinese Culture Workshop's practice‑based teaching at JISU. This semester, the university has already taken international students on study tours to the Jilin Provincial Museum and the Jilin Provincial Folk Museum. Future excursions will include the Northeast Tiger Park, Jingyuetan National Forest Park, the FAW Twin Towers, and the FAW Hongqi Cultural Exhibition Hall. Through these real‑world experiences, the university aims to help international students better understand China and Jilin, and to empower them to become friendly ambassadors for cultural exchange and mutual learning in science and civilization – telling Jilin’s stories and amplifying China’s voice on the global stage.
