Achieving a historic seventh consecutive title.
From 2020 to 2025, JISU ranked first in the overall Soft Science China Private University Rankings for six consecutive years, laying a solid foundation for this year’s seventh straight title.
The ShanghaiRanking adopts a comprehensive evaluation system comprising 10 core modules, 35 evaluation dimensions, 104 indicators, and 398 variables, delivering a multi-dimensional, monitoring-based assessment of Chinese universities’ operational quality. The 2026 edition covers more than 1,000 undergraduate institutions across China. To ensure fairness and accurately reflect differences in institutional nature and type, Soft Science categorizes universities into comprehensive universities, 8 types of single-discipline universities, and 4 types of non-public universities, applying differentiated indicator systems for each category.
Formerly known as the Best Chinese Universities Ranking, the ShanghaiRanking have been released annually since 2015. Renowned for their professionalism, objectivity, and transparency, they have gained wide recognition across and beyond the higher education sector, establishing themselves as a leading, authoritative reference brand for Chinese university rankings. In addition to their strong domestic influence, the rankings have also gained international traction, joining other top global university rankings to form a global higher education evaluation framework.
Jilin International Studies University was founded in 1995. Since its establishment, the university has always upheld the philosophy of “all we do is for students to learn, grow and succeed,” practiced the educational philosophy of “Student-centered, providing the most responsible education,” and the nurturing philosophy of “Be an excellent Chinese with proficiency in foreign Language to tell China’s stories well.” It has pursued this blueprint consistently, achieving multiple “firsts” and “onlys” in the national private higher education sector: It is the first and currently the only private university funded by donations, the first and currently the only provincial-level key private university,the only pilot unit for the national education system reform—“exploring the operation model of non-profit private universities”, the only private university included in the National Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in Central and Western China,the first private university accredited to award master degrees, the first private university approved as a doctoral degree granting unit, and the only private university upgraded to a university.The university has been selected as a Category-A builder for Jilin Province’s High-Level Application-Oriented Universities project and an A+ candidate for doctoral degree authorization; and in 2025, it was honored with the titles of “National Civilized Campus” and “National Advanced Social Organization.”
In 2010, the evaluation opinion of the Ministry of Education’s Undergraduate Teaching Assessment Expert Group stated: “This is a private university with stature, taste, and pursuit; one that emphasizes cultivation, is very sunny, and possesses great determination; it is the banner of private universities in China.” In 2017, the evaluation opinion of the Ministry of Education’s Undergraduate Teaching Quality Assessment Expert Group stated: “It has sentiment, responsibility, contribution, standards, characteristics, soul, and hope; it is worthy of being the banner of China’s private universities.” In 2025, the evaluation opinion of the Ministry of Education’s Undergraduate Teaching Quality Assessment Expert Group stated: “The school’s strength is more solid, the nurturing system more perfect, core advantages more prominent, campus culture more profound, training effectiveness more significant, social reputation more manifest, and development momentum more vigorous. It is a private university with sentiment, pattern, responsibility, determination, and potential, and is worthy of being the banner of private universities in China.”
The new journey entrusts us with a new mission, and the new blueprint calls for new actions. The university will always take Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as its fundamental guide, scientifically implement the “15th Five-Year Plan,” comprehensively promote a strategic transformation, enhance two types of school-running capabilities, build three major systems, strengthen four types of talents, and build five major brands. We will forge ahead courageously towards the goal of building a high-level foreign studies university that is boutique, non-profit, application-oriented, internationalized, and distinctive.
