On May 10, the “Chinese Bridge” 2025 Global Chinese Competition—Storytelling Northeast Preliminaries, organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under China’s Ministry of Education, was held at Harbin University of Science and Technology. Our university sent 10 international students from Vietnam, Laos, and South Korea to participate in the competition. Among them, Vietnamese students Phạm Tiến Hưng, Bạch Thị Hải Yến, and her daughter won the Style Award in the family group performance.
The event attracted 148 contestants from 30 countries and regions. Our international students showcased their Chinese proficiency through various forms such as themed speeches, crosstalk, and kuaiban (rhythmic storytelling), becoming a vibrant highlight of the competition. Media outlets including Xinhua News Agency and Hunan TV interviewed and reported on their performances.

The participation fully demonstrated our international students’ proficiency in Chinese and their passion for Chinese culture, marking a solid step forward in the university’s efforts to promote international Chinese education and cultural exchange. Moving forward, the university will continue leveraging global platforms such as the “Chinese Bridge”competition to encourage more international students to share global stories in Chinese and amplify China’s voice, further enriching the vibrant chapters of cross-cultural linguistic and cultural exchange.
