Aug 19, 2024 11:12 AM

From August 7 to 13, 2025, the 7th International Youth Summer Camp was held in South Korea, hosted by Shin Gyeongju University in Gyeongsangbuk-do. Since establishing sister-state relations in 2015, Jilin Province and Gyeongsangbuk-do have maintained frequent exchanges and close cooperation. To strengthen youth talent exchanges and friendship between China and South Korea, Jilin International Studies University (JISU) was commissioned by the Jilin Provincial Foreign Affairs Office and sent a delegation of faculty and students on behalf of Jilin Province to join in this cultural and academic exchange initiative with other 63 participants from around the world.

JISU attached great importance to this international event. Its delegation was led by Professor Li Shizhe, Director of the Korean Language Department at the School of Oriental Languages. The delegation received comprehensive support from the Jilin Provincial Foreign Affairs Office.

The summer camp centered on enabling young people worldwide to experience Korean culture and history, fostering global perspectives, and promoting mutual understanding across diverse cultures. During the event, participants explored the scenic cities of Gyeongsangbuk-do, engaged in traditional Korean cultural practices, and gained insights into South Korea’s latest advancements in high technology and artificial intelligence. Their journey spanned Shin Gyeongju University campus, POSCO’s Pohang Steelworks, Andong Hahoe Folk Village, and other sites, where they engaged in multicultural exchanges, completed tasks, and forged deep friendships with student representatives from other regions. Through their active involvement, JISU students exemplified the school’s spirit and forward-looking ethos.

Notably, at POSCO, one of the world’s largest steel manufacturers, Ms. Jin Yinglan—a 2008 graduate of JISU—served as the guide throughout the tour, evoking a strong sense of pride and closeness among the students.

The event further deepened the friendly cooperative relations between Jilin Province and South Korea’s Gyeongsangbuk-do, providing a significant practical opportunity for JISU to advance its internationalized education and expand global exchange platforms for faculty and students. Participants expressed their commitment to continuously broadening their international perspectives, enhancing cross-cultural communication skills, contributing to telling China’s stories and fostering the enduring friendship between China and South Korea.
