On March 18, JISU officially launched its Chinese Culture Workshop. Serving as both a hands‑on practical session and a required course for international students, the program brings together 97 students from 21 countries for a year‑long journey into the charm of fine traditional Chinese culture.
Learning about Chinese Cuisine
Learning about Traditional Chinese Medicine
Learning about Traditional Chinese Musical Instruments
In class, instructors elaborated on the curriculum structure, teaching schedule and practical requirements of this semester’s Chinese Culture Workshop. They also highlighted the distinctive features of its culturalexperience modules.
Subsequently, the international students visited the China Village within the Global Village, where they gained an upclose understanding of Chinese cuisine, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), traditional Chinese costumes, and more. The students expressed great anticipation for the upcoming learning and practical activities, hoping to deepen their understanding of fine traditional Chinese culture through handson experiences and serve as bridges for cultural exchange between China and the rest of the world.
As a signature program for international students, JISU’s Chinese Culture Workshop was first launched in 2016. The course is guided by faculty from the Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL) program at the School of International Communication, with support from postgraduate students in International Chinese Language Education. Based at JISU’s Global Village, a hub for multicultural learning, the workshop highlights Jilin's local folk culture while staying rooted in traditional Chinese heritage. Students get hands-on experience with a rich variety of activities, including folk music, calligraphy, kite making, paper-cutting, Chinese knotting, tea art, martial arts, festival customs, TCM, and more. The goal is simple: to help international students truly experience China, understand its culture, and share it with the world.
