Thirty Years of Unceasing Dedication to Education, Embarking on a New Journey to Write a Splendid Chapter

2026 New Year Message from the President of Jilin International Studies University

Dear teachers, students, alumni, and friends at home and abroad,

Year after year, life opens a fresh chapter. On this joyous occasion of bidding farewell to the old and ushering in the new, on behalf of the university, l wish to extend my most sincere New Year blessings and warmest holiday greetings to all our dedicated faculty, our aspiring and enterprising students, our alumni at home and abroad who always hold their alma mater dear, and to leaders at all levels and friends from all walks of life who have long cared for and supported the growth of Jilin international Studies University!

The year 2025 has been a year of arduous efforts and fruitful achievements for JISU, coinciding with the significant historical milestone of the university’s 30th anniversary. Over the past year, we pool strength from reflecting on our original aspirations and honoring our heritage, forging ahead resolutely on the journey of running the university and fostering virtue through education. Numerous milestone accomplishments have written a magnificent final chapter for the university’s thirty years of development.

This year, we received great attention and gracious care from superiors. Leaders including Cai Dafeng, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and Chairman of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD); Huai Jinpeng, Party Secretary and Minister of Education; Feng Ling, Vice Chairwomen of the All-China Women’s Federation; Qiu Jiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee and Head of the United Front Work Department; and Li Longxi, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Jilin Committee, visited the university for research, fully affirming the university’s practical path of high-quality development and its educational achievements. These affirmations are the results of the concerted efforts of the entire university, and a powerful driving force for us to forge ahead.

This year, we promoted construction and reform through evaluation, achieving excellent results in the undergraduate education teaching audit evaluation. The assessment panel highly praised us with the “Seven Improvements” “Six Highlights” and “Five Strengths”, commending the university as fully deserving of being the banner of private universities in China. It has been ranked first in Shanghai Ranking’s Academic Ranking of China’s Private Universities for six consecutive years from 2020 to 2025. We made a splendid appearance at the 63rd Higher Education Expo China with the theme of “Language Connects·Innovation Leads” steadily enhancing our educational influence and social reputation.

This year, we made new progress in fostering virtue through education. The School of Marxism was recognized as one of the second batch of key Schools of Marxism in Jilin Province. The university’s experience in ideological and political work was shared at the National Symposium on Party Building in Private Universities and Chinese-Foreign Cooperative Education Institutions hosted by the Ministry of Education. The experience in building the team of ideological and political course teachers was included in the Ministry of Education’s “Compilation of Characteristic Work Cases for the Construction and Development of Ideological and Political Courses in Universities”. Five professional clusters, including “Multilingual Translation and International Communication,” were approved as construction projects for distinctive high-level professional clusters in Jilin Province. The School of International Communication was approved as the second batch of professional characteristic colleges in Jilin Province. Five courses were recognized as national first-class undergraduate courses, six courses were rated as ideological and political demonstration courses in Jilin Province, and five textbooks were selected as “14th Five-Year Plan” textbooks in Jilin Province. The university was also selected as a pilot unit for artificial intelligence general education courses in Jilin Province. All eight higher academic continuing education majors were approved. The university student union was elected as a group member of the 28th Committee of the All-China Students’ Federation (ACSF). Our volunteer service education brand continued to shine. Our students won 659 national-level awards in a series of competitions, including the National English Competition for College Students (NECCS), the National “Tian Jiabing Cup” Teaching Skills Competition for Full-time Master of Education, and the 4th CMAU National Market Research and Business Planning Competition for College Students. Our innovation and entrepreneurship team won the gold award in the Second College Student New Liberal Arts Practice and Innovation Competition, demonstrating the youthful responsibility of JISU students with their strength.

This year, our discipline research reached new heights. The discipline of Foreign Languages and Literature was included in the “2025 Shanghai Ranking’s Best Chinese Subject Rankings,” making JISU the first private university in the country to be ranked in this list. We were approved for five provincial-level distinctive high-level discipline (cluster) construction projects, including “Country and Region Studies”. For the first time, we were approved for the Chinese Academic Translation Project of the National Social Science Fund and the “Open Bidding for Selecting the Best Candidates” major project of the Jilin Provincial Social Science Fund, achieving a dual breakthrough in high-level projects at the national and provincial levels. We have been approved for National Social Science Fund projects for six consecutive years. The “Jilin Provincial Northeast Asia Country and Region Literature Translation Research Base” was approved as a construction unit for the Jilin Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Research Base. The core competitiveness and radiating influence of the discipline and scientific research system have been continuously enhanced.

This year, our international exchange and cooperation reached new heights. We co-established the first local Chinese teacher training center in the United States with Saint Peter’s University. For the first time, we were approved for the local innovation sub-project of the Local Cooperation Project by the China Scholarship Council and the Jilin Provincial Foreign Expert Project. We signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the China International Communications Group (CICG), successfully hosted the Global University Presidents’ Forum, established six new Chinese-foreign cooperative research platforms, and received eight overseas delegations, including the “Chinese Bridge” delegation of the Ministry of Education. These efforts have built a solid bridge for mutual learning in educational exchanges between China and foreign countries, making JISU’s international features shine even brighter.

This year, our efforts in civilization construction yielded fruitful results as we were awarded the title of the Third National Civilized Campus. This is a historic breakthrough in the university’s spiritual civilization construction and the crystallization of the common struggle of all JISU members. “Civilized JISU” has become one of our most beautiful business cards. We have always put students’ needs first, building a high-standard student activity center, iteratively updating sports field facilities, and meticulously optimizing dormitory living conditions. Through these hardware upgrades, we continuously improved the learning and living environment for teachers and students, steadily enhancing everyone’s sense of fulfillment, happiness, and belonging. Student Peng Xiaotong successfully realized her dream of going to Indonesia as a volunteer international Chinese language teacher. This practice vividly demonstrates the educational philosophy of “student-centered and most responsible education”—which not only guarantees students’ growth but also ensures that every JISU student can pursue their dreams without worries and grow with confidence and optimism.

Particularly memorable is our celebration of the 30th anniversary of running the university under the theme “Forging Ahead for Thirty Years, Embarking on the Second Phase of Entrepreneurial Development to Write a New Chapter”. At the celebration ceremony, bunting fluttered and music played harmoniously. Over a thousand alumni from home and abroad crossed mountains and seas to return to their alma mater. Leaders at all levels, representatives from sister institutions, and eminent figures from all walks of life gathered together to join the grand celebration. We held a high-quality development conference to plan for the future, organized alumni forums to share experiences of struggle, launched an exhibition of educational achievements to trace the glorious history, and released a promotional video and commemorative badges for the anniversary, allowing every JISU person to feel the power of heritage during this grand event. Striding into the future on our thirtieth anniversary, we set off anew. This celebration was not only a tribute to the past but also a spiritual gathering that united hearts and opened a new chapter.

The torch of knowledge has been passed down through generations, and our graduates are flourishing everywhere. These accomplishments are inseparable from the continuous struggle of all JISU members, the meticulous education and dedicated research of all faculty members, the diligent study and steadfast practice of our students, the deep affection and strong support of our alumni at home and abroad, and the careful guidance and enthusiastic assistance of leaders at all levels and all sectors of society, which have safeguarded the university's development. I would like to express my highest respect to every colleague and friend who has contributed to the development of JISU!

Thirty years of unceasing dedication to education is the original aspiration held by generations of JISU members; embarking on a new journey to write a splendid chapter is the mission and responsibility of every member of the JISU community. The year 2026 is not only the first year for us to fully implement the “14th Five-Year Plan”, but also a crucial year for the entire university to strive for the goal of establishing a doctoral degree authorization program. Standing at a new historical starting point, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, we embody the ethos of our motto “Building Cultures and Cultivating Global Talents”. With a higher perspective and more pragmatic measures, we will focus on the second phase of entrepreneurial development and build six flagship areas. We will deeply translate the evaluation results of the “Seven Improvements” into the practical effectiveness of running the university. We will strive unremittingly to build a high-level, non-profit, application-oriented, and internationalized foreign languages university with distinctive features and a commitment to excellence. We will demonstrate greater JISU responsibility in serving national strategies and empowering the development of Jilin Province, allowing this academic institution, which carries a century-old dream, to continuously radiate a more dazzling brilliance in the new era!

In closing, I sincerely wish everyone a Happy New Year, health, happiness and every success!

May the future of Jilin International Studies University be even brighter!

May our country enjoy prosperity and our people live in harmony!
