January 4 witnessed the official opening of the 2019 Jingyuetan Vasaloppet China Festival in Changchun, where approximately 1,000 athletes and snowboarders from 32 nations and regions gathered for the competition. In order to make sure the event went smoothly, Jilin International Studies University (JISU) selected and dispatched 76 excellent students to work as volunteers, taking charge of competition service, logistics support and on-site interpretation. Their meticulousness and dedication in work fully embodies the high quality of JISU students and received acclamation and recognition from the sponsor and all the athletes present.

The voluntary interpretation groups serving international student athletes
Zhang Xiaoyue, director of the interpretation group from Class 1603 of Business English, said, “We also finished the 2500-meter-length competition accompanying international student athletes. It’s our honor to offer the interpretative service to them, and meanwhile we are encouraged to pursue our major with more resolution.”

The Volunteers serving Prize Stewards
“Without teamwork and joint contributions of all the volunteers, the 2019 Vasaloppet China Festival could not have been so successful. I learned a lot from this experience in the short but meaningful event,” said Zhang Meng, director of the logistic support group. What impressed me most is the optimistic spirit and perseverance all the volunteers demonstrated in the face of difficulties. The chilly winter cannot stop us, nor can it prevent us from marching ahead. As JISU volunteers, we must persist in cooperation, teamwork and a never-say-die mentality!” Zhang added.

He Jiarui, a student from Class 1702 of English-Spanish Bilingual responsible for recruiting volunteers, said, “There are numerous athletes in the competition, varying greatly from each other in nationality and age. The weather is very cold. And the competition route is roundabout and complicated. All of these pose great difficulties to the service of volunteers. But nobody was affected by these difficulties and they worked with unfailing enthusiasm and provided high-quality service, which was highly extolled by all of those participating in the event. The non-profit spirit featuring “being a bridge linking China and the world” is fully manifested by performances of JISU volunteers this time.”
